The wires have broken of of the "sensor" just ot the left of the coolant temperature sending unit.     The one with the 22mm(?) size and two wires coming off of it.  Does anyone know what this part is and how i can get another one?  Does anyone have a link to a parts diagram so I can get the part number?

If you have a Haynes Manual 90010 look on page 3-6 fig. 9.1 it's the sensor just to the left in the picture.

If your local part store can't find it I usually just give Hawk Suzuki a call.  If they don't have it in stock they can tell you where to order it.

Coolant sensor is single wire in my Zuk. The only two wire device on mine to the left is the TPS or triple position switching valve. Otherwise know in my locale as idle up switch. I do not have a Haynes handy so a pic is worth a 1000 words:)

I think you're talking about what's called the IATS in the Chilton manual, other places call it ambient air temp sensor.  The aftermarket item I found was Standard Motor Parts AX-61 but good luck finding one!  Every place I tried said it's a dead part no.  I have one supposedly on order from Suzuki dealer at the gold-plated price of $88 but it's been awhile and for all I know they're gonna call me and say they can't get it. In the Chilton manual there is a test procedure that shows resistances graphed against temp.  it looks to me like you could wire a fixed resistance of about 1 k-ohm across the two wires that would be right for a normally running, warmed up engine.  Or I might be reading this graph wrong?

The coolant temperature sensor for the EFI is a two-wire device. The coolant temperature sensor for the gauge is a one-wire device.

That's true--two wire for the ECM sender and one for the guage. I was thinking Gotbait meant to the left of the 2 contact coolant sensor, and that one is for air, not coolant. It's the one of the three sensors screw into the intake manifold and it is the closest to the throttle body.  It has a 2 wire pigtail coming out of it, the coolant sender has a 2-wire plug but no pigtail.  The two coolant sensors are easy to find parts, the air sensor isn't.

On my 8V engine there is no pigtail on the IAT, the IAT and CTS look the same but have different colour plugs. Perhaps the OP can clarify what vehicle he is referring to.

Depending on the year, some were just a sensor and the "pigtail" was the wiring harness and others actually had the
"pigtail" on the sensor itself.

I'm learning about these engines as I go so I can now verify that--not all of them have pigtails. I did get my new semsor from Suzuki and it was the one that has the plug on the back of it, no pigtail.  Looks exactly the same as the coolant temp sensor from the outside, the difference is $88  vs $4.  Now I got to get a matching male plug from the boneyard and I'm good to go.  Hope this cures the fast idle.
