have spark but no fuel from the injector / 89 tracker
« on: November 28, 2011, 04:59:48 PM »
so my 89 tracker was running fine yesterday but today it just decided to not start. i checked the spark and  it was fine. i then checked for error codes using the jumper and got error code 41 which is the ignition signal circuit. from what i understand error code 41 means there is no spark. there IS spark from all the plugs though.
i have the problem narrowed down to the noise suppression filter. the wires from it go to the tach and the computer which would be why i am getting the code 41 and my tach is not jumping while i crank it over.
so what i'm wondering is if anyone has had the same problem and came to the same conclusion. the autoparts store here didn't have a noise suppression filter so i am guessing i will have to go to a junk yard to find one.

Have you checked if it's getting fuel? Could be the fuel pump, or more often the fuseable link behind your driver's side tail light. try putting a little shot of gas directly into the throttle body, if it fires up you're not getting fuel. IF you're not getting fuel, check the fuseable link behind the tail light before the fuel pump, the power supply wire for the fuel pump tends to fry, and it's alot easier to fix than dropping out your gas tank. Remove the driver's side tail light and look for a connector (there is more than one) in Canada the wire for the fuel pump is pink, I don't know if it's the same in the US. If it's fried it will be obvious, burnt hole in the connector most likely.

The noise suppressor provides a ignition feedback "fail safe" signal to the ECU, if the ECU doesn't "see" a spark it kills the fuel system for safety.

i know it's getting fuel pressure. i actually just had the tank out to replace some leaking lines to it. after i put everything back in it ran fine until today when i went to start it. first thing i did was pull the return line and had a buddy turn the key. fuel is definitely coming out (at a good pressure). i also looked at the injector while a buddy cranked it over and it did not pulse. i pulled all the plugs and they are getting good spark. the error code 41 is saying there is no spark though.
this diagram shows that the noise suppressor filter (which i think is the culprit) goes to the spark monitor which i'm guessing is what would throw the error 41 and cause it to shut down the injector. it also goes to the tach which is not bouncing up to around 400 rpm like it should when i crank it over.

since the computer isn't detecting spark it wont fire the injector and i'm guessing that's why i am getting no fuel.
