Rediculously bumpy ride. Spring options?
« on: November 09, 2011, 05:43:17 AM »
I have finally been able to drive my sami around again. (http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/build-up-87-sami-1-6-16v-megasquirt/)

My rig is going to be 80-90% off road driving. Mostly hard packed (but bumpy) lime and 2 rut roads.  Lots of goofing off on washouts, sand dunes, and mud.. we dont have rocks here.  My drive on pavement will be important but not as much as dirt. I cannot even drive it off-road right now.  My neck and back are killing me from yesterdays woods ride lol.

I prefer to just swap leafs as opposed to a completely different setup.  Seems like the stockers or even YJ leafs would do way better.  I want the smoothest off-road ride and best flex I can.

Currently have:
Calmini 3" lift springs & shocks.  I relocated front shock mounts to bottom-outsides of axle tube, still need to add shock hoops to the tops.
SPOA, HD grade 8 Ubolt hardware, high steer kit, 3" drop pitman, rear axle truss.  Running 31" TSLs at 13-15psi.

YJ 2.5" lift springs in a spua config, or stock YJ's in spoa.

 Is there a specific year range on the yj?

yj = 87-95

any 'lift' springs will be harsh; whether they are 3" Calmini or '21/2" lift yj'

You can do sammi rears up front (google search samurai ruf), w/cj rear = softer. minimal work/fabbing

My first choice is a a yj conversion; front and rear.

about as 'plush' as a short wheelbase samurai can be; requires additional bracketry

you can fab:  http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10858/SPRING_PLATE_DWG.jpg

...or buy a kit from tt or sky

Is there a print out for the rear brackets?
