Replacement carbs for 1.3a '87 Samurai
« on: September 29, 2011, 05:43:34 AM »
Is there any recomended replacement carbs for the 1.3l.  I would like to just go to a pick n pull yard and get a carb, or is that a bad idea.  I live on the coast and just plan on using my zuki for the beach.

I have seen a couple of conversions, but you will need to have someone custom build you an adaptor.  The most common swaps are to Harley CV carbs and a Webber.

Im currently swapping my stock carb for a Toyota corolla carb its a bit bigger cfm wise. It's bolt on and you can get em for cheap at local salvage yards, and they are vacuum line eliminators!!! They are amazing and I will post how I like it after I'm done with it. Zack "Team aftermarket4x4"

Super, what year?  That sounds like it would be worth a try.  Thanks!

Mine came off a 1988 corolla, google Toyota carb swap samurai. This is the easiest carb swap ever! I'm pretty sure mine came off an 88 I bought it off a buddy of mine.

Toyota corolla carbs are good swap option just bolt it up and volia it even allows you to use the original air breather. I have one in mine and it runs ok. I had a Weber in the past good power but drank gas and had the infamous stall issues at high angles.

What is wrong with the current carb? I am guessing the main butterfly valve shaft is badly worn and you are having idling issues. In that case just have the shaft rebuilt and the bores re-bushed with delrin or brass. Follow that up with a carb kit and you fixed for another 100 000km.  I have found the original carb works best but that just my opinion.

I was looking for a better power option.  I guess I reallly need more top end speed to be able to drive the zuki to work once in awhile.  Existing carb seems to be working fairly good I do think it could use all new vacume lines.

With that Toyota carb I have way more top end power and it's super simple to hook up! I did a few ditch runs and had no problems with high angles it didn't load up or stall. I love that carb!

The EMPI and Weber units are just about identical.  Both are available in 32/26 and 38/38 configurations and have electric choke options as well.
With the float adjusted to 1mm of travel, offroading and hill climbs should be no trouble.
