Engine from Esteem?
« on: October 27, 2011, 02:07:35 AM »
Hello everyone.

I recently picked up a '91 Samurai. It was someone's baby and he put a lot of time and money into this thing except the engine and tranny. He took care of them but after 225,000 km's, they are quite tired. With the lift and big tires under it, I have a hard time getting it up to 90 km/h.

So I'm looking to do something about it. I'm considering a few options but then I was looking at used vehicles locally and found a 1996 Suzuki Esteem GLX Sedan. It has a freshly rebuilt 1.6L engine. The price is right and from my research, it's a 16 valve. Is this the same engine out of the Sidekicks that people are putting in their Sami's?

It's an auto transmission unfortunately, but I'd look around for a standard transmission. This car would have all the other donor parts I would imagine.

Your feedback is appreciated.

The Esteem engine will fit, you will need to mate the engine to the Sammy gearbox anyway, the Esteem is Front Wheel Drive. The Esteem is a 16V and has a Denso ECU which is much better than the Track/Kick unit , a 96 is probably remappable as well.
