Weber Problems
« on: October 04, 2011, 06:28:13 PM »
Installed a new weber 32/36 electric choke carb this weekend on my stock 88 zuk and I have been unable to make it run correctly. The installation went well or so I thought. When she first started and warmed up I went through the low idle and mixture adjustments based on the instructions but could not find the sweet spot. Even drove it for a couple of miles and was impressed with the throttle response but it surged at a lower idle. Checked the fuel pressure with a mity-vac and it was around 3 psi with the stock fuel pump. The more I tinkered with the adjustments the worse it ran. At that time I suspected a vacuum leak but now it floods so bad I can't keep it running long enough to tell what is happening. When I look down into the butterflies there is lot raw fuel and she won't start until it evaporates. I have retraced my steps and I feel certain that it is something stupid I've done. A "can't see the forest for the trees" type situation. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your responses. I probably would have never owned a zuk if it had not been for you all on this forum.

Sounds like the float stuck it should not flood that easy. Also you should not half too adjust it they are pretty close. Is it for a sammi?Ive got them out of the bone yard and cleaned them up and rejet them and they run bitchen. You may have too pull the top off and check the float level and make sure its not too high. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Here is what I did today after work. BTW this is new redline weber.  I turned the mixture screw all the way in and backed the idle screw all the way out. Once the engine started it would run if I kept] the revs up but it put out black smoke like a diesel. Once it died there was still a lot of raw fuel on the butterflies. Then removed the carb to check the float height. The instructions say "19mm from the gasket surface o the tip of the float". From the front side bottom edge the float was about 27 mm. The instructions seem unclear to me. Is the front edge, opposite of the float valve and the 19 mm setting from the center line of the float?

Ok, now I'm desperate. Today I set the float at 40 mm from the bottom to the gasket surface based on info from the internet and reinstalled the carb. Then installed a low pressure regulator and set it to 1 psi based on my assumption that I was wrong about it a few days ago. Set the mixture screw out one turn and backed the low idle screw out until it didn't touch the lever and the engine started. After warming up, set the low idle, turned the mixture screw out another 1/4 turn and drove it for a couple of miles. It ran good. Decided to adjust the idle down a little more and it ran for a few minutes and died. Now it won't start. This time there is no fuel on the butterflies. Tinkered with the fuel pressure all the way up 3 psi with no luck. Please, does anyone have any ideas?
