Snow tracks
« on: August 24, 2011, 02:41:19 PM »
We have all seen the videos of the tracker with tracks but does anyone on here have them??
I have a 1994 zuki sidekick 16v 5speed 4door and I want to put snow tracks on it.
My question is, am I able to put UTV tracks on it or will they not handle that much weight?
There has to be someone on here that has tried it.

Thanks  Ryan...

I have not seen a tracker done, but I have seen a modified Subie running them. The matttracks brand UTV HD litefoot tracks are good to 4200lbs.

Thanks for the link I overlooked them. I was looking mostly at the tatou 4s tracks. I would think that 4200lbs would be enough to hold a 4 door sidekick.

Also are there any modifications that one would have to do such as locker or lower gears?
A buddy of mine talked to a guy that had a jeep Cherokee and he had to lock both axles and install lower gears.
I think that the sidekick is lighter and already has low enough gears, but it would be great to talk to someone that has done it already and get there opinion.

Thanks  Ryan...

There are some for sale in this thread.  The owner may have the answers you seek.

I don't have experience with tracks on a sidekick, but I have seen them in person on atv's.  They turn your rig into something entirely different than it is now. Both good and bad.  Good - you can go over almost anything that you would sink into before - just like straping snow shoes on your feet. Bad- think heavy and not so easy to turn. The quick / nimble fleet of foot is all gone - just like straping snow shoes on your feet. The traction / weight completely change the feel and ride.

Every person I know that got them for ATV's thought they were absolute nervona when they got them... and sold them within 2 years.

We had them for the front and rear of a Kawaskai 700 twin ATV, they were awesome in open terrain, but on tight trails they absooluutely sucked big raw green donkey dugans, but we cured that by NOT installing the front tracks and running a sand tire with a center rib. It would outperform snowmobiles on the hill climbs EVERY time!

it takes allot of horse power to run them, I used to run tires like your talking about with the ribs those were great tires, I think they were called desert tracks. You could take your doors off and run some 31 inch real wide tires and you might do better, just do the silicon sealer on the bead trick and air way down. I just picked up several sets of large tires with 15 inch wide wheels for me to do some testing with outback this winter with two inch spacers, I have four ply terra tires eight ply terra tires and some 18.5 wide stock car tires to mess with, I was looking for the 24 inch wide but so far no luck on those, will try some steel cable on them if needed for more traction these are going to be used just for fun and experiment kind of thing. I have an extra tub laying outback also so if needed may cut the back off it and make a 6x6 and see how that does, may need to drink lots of redbull!

lockers are a must, turns are wide, tracks wear quickly of hard surfaces. I had them on a work truck that had tons of power.
