Hello all, I have been slowly working on my 4-door 'Kick with the eventual goal of having a diesel-powered daily driver. However, I am still a student and my cash flow this summer is, well, less than anticipated. Also, finding a diesel engine (that doesn't cost 8 times what I paid for the truck in the first place) is turning out to be a long search. I would really like to get my 'Kick out on the road ASAP, so I am now planning on just swapping a new gas engine into it for the time being so that I can drive it while saving and searching for the diesel swap parts.
Anyway, my question is this - I have a line on an engine out of a '98 4-door Sidekick. I can probably get it for $300-400 and it is (supposedly) in good running condition. However, I'm not sure whether it would be a direct swap into my '93 Sidekick. My 'Kick did have a 16v originally, but I know that the later models are OBDII, while mine definitely isn't. Can I get the '98 engine and just plop it in my engine bay, hook it up, and go? Or do I need to swap some things over from (what's left of) the old engine? Or do I have to grab the '98 computer and harness and swap the whole messs? I'd rather not deal with the complication of swapping the engine electronics, since my ultimate goal is to get rid of them, but maybe if I can talk the seller down to a low enough price it might be worth the time.
Thanks for your help!
