Newb, searched, perfered wheel width for 33's?
« on: June 15, 2011, 01:57:49 PM »
I'm about to order a set of Wheelers 15" wheels with the 2.5 back space to push my 33's out a little more.  Is there a concensus about the width that is prefered?  8" or the 10" wheel?  Seems like the 10" would pull more of the bulk of the tire to the outside since the back space stays the same.

Anyway, just looking for some experience or advice.

I think it mostly depends on the width you buy. 10.5 or less on a 7-8 wide rim. Greater than that a 10 would be in order. Some of it depends on the type of driving / wheeling you might do as well.

If you are rock crawling then you want less width so that you don't break the bead bouncin around on the rocks. If you mostly mudd it or pavement crawl then a wider rim is less likely to give you a problem.

Check out the manufactuer specs when you buy your rubber it can be pretty helpful in your rim choice.  ;)
I know the voices aren't real.... but they have some pretty kewl ideas!!! Tux.....  ;-)

I run 33x12.5 on a 15x8 wheel with 3.5" of backspacing.  Never had any issue and hardly ever looses a bead.

much appreciated, sounds like I will be going with the 8" wide wheel for 33x12.50  Goodyear Duratracs.  Thanks again!

PS, only been a Sammy owner a few weeks and a memeber on the boards here even less but I do appreciate the willingness to help out us new guys with uber stupid questions.  I come from BMW Tuning forums where unless you are an established member of 2000 posts or more nobody gives you the time of day, even less advice.  Thanks again, Zukiworld rocks so far!

I run 33x10.50 Radial TSLs at 5-7psi on 8" wide wheels.  Never lost a bead.  I do trails and rocks.
The flexibility of the sidewall of the tires you are running, will make a difference on how well the tires stay on the wheels too.
