Whip antenna mount...
« on: September 09, 2010, 01:53:01 AM »
Let's see your whip antenna mounting ideas, I'm talking the big whips for flags when you hit the OHV trails.
I'm looking for a "fold down whip mount" like they use on Rhinos, Rangers/Razrs, etc.  They make them in sizes up to 1.75", and I think I've even seen a 1.88" model for a Mule.  Anyways, I'm looking for one in 2", has anyone ever some across this?  I can't find anything in that size
Or any other suggestions?
I'm looking for this because it would mount on the top and center of my Trail Tough front tube bumper...and it would be able to fold down if I needed it to.  I don't really want to bolt a bracket on to the body (it'd be too simple that way, I wanna make it difficult  ::) ) so if I could find one of these in a 2" size, it'd fit right on to my bumper.
Bumper is 1.900" tubing, and it's powdercoated.  I used a set of calipers to measure it and it's about 1.95"...a 2" clamp mount would fit with a small piece of rubber.
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things.  Right now I am so far behind, I will never die.

Check out the electronics and lights section in the big rigs area of a large truck stop/fuel station. Plenty of radio antennas and mounting options.
It's five o'clock somewhere!!

I was thinking bout getting one of those and takin it to a machine shop and having it machined out to my spec but trying to find one already done. I want to mount it front and center at the top of the stinger/push bar on my Trail Tough bumper. I didn't want to weld a tab on it and destroy the powdercoat and still wanted it removable

I just looked through my EMPI catalog, and the pictures of the whip mounts do not look like they have enough material to machine out to the larger diameter that you need. You might also try looking through the stuff at a motorcycle shop that deals with cruiser type bikes.

I was also thinking of using a mount with a fat magnet and just sticknot to my roof. But I can't seem to find anything like that anywhere

I use a magnet mount on mine, I got the CB secondhand,  but pretty sure it came with the antenna.  BTW its from Radio Shack.

It holds tight enough, but I put an American flag on there for the Forth of July once and a big truck blew it right off my roof!   :o
Good thing it had the cable for a leash!
