« on: April 06, 2011, 05:33:22 AM »
Ok so I've been working on my retub project for a month now an I an also rebuilding the motor but was gonna go with stock everything was just gonna renew it all. Then was thinkin maybe there are some easy cheap mode I could do to get alittle more pep out the old girl. I have the 8.1 transfer case gears in it an I wanted to get 33's under it.its running 30 now. An was figuring a little more power would be a good thing to turn the tires . If u know what I mean. So if yall know any easy up grades while the motors apart. I already have header , master blaster coil system , an weber carb set up. It's already got way more pep then my plow sami that's stock.

It's a bit easier then the 1.6 16v swap for the reasons you specified, you get to keep your intake and exhaust.  You will need new engine mounts and an adapter to go to the stock transmission, I would give Trail Tough a call and talk to Brett.  He can hook you up with everything you need.

theres proven evolution with the smaller motors......they all (alot) seem to get swapped out for more power. If I knew I was going to run 33's. I would really think about a power upgrade now. might be able too shop around and do the swap with less cash outlay than a 1.3 rebuild. my .02

Yes, some, remember .030" is a spark plug gap, and that's not a lot
but it will increase the CCs of the cylinder, and the increase in piston
dia. will give more power, all things remaining the same, but with other
power improvements it will be even more. All that being said, the real
power increase will be with an increased stroke, the 1.6 L engine is a
stroked 1.3L engine, the difference is 1mm bore, which is about what
you are looking at with a 30 over piston, and an increase in the stroke
of 15mm, but the stroke gives about 30% more power than a 1.3.

Unfortunately the 1.3 cannot be stroked like that, and the 1.6 block
is about 1 inch taller than the 1.3 block, so if you are really bent on
more power, the 1.6 swap is a serious consideration
