Has anyone had this transmission problem?
« on: February 11, 2011, 07:46:30 AM »
It won't go anywhere no matter what gear I put it in. I'm thinking a broken torque converter or bad tranmission pump. It's a 2000 v6 model, any ideas?

Can you move the car by rocking it in Park?  Can you move it by rocking/pushing it in any position other than Park?  Does it start in gears other than P/N?

I imagine that you checked the fluid level, right?  ;)

Color nice and red?

It will not move in park but can be pushed in other gears. Not sure about starting in gear.

Yes, that was the first thing I did.

I'm thinking pump failure, assuming that the mechanical shift linkage IS physically selecting gears, as designed.

Yea, the cable and linkage are fine.

2005 FSM 4spd auto

Unable to run ALL ranges:
  • Regulator valve stuck
  • Clogged strainer
  • Seized or broken planetary gear
  • Faulty manual valve
  • Wear in oil pump
  • Seizure in oil pump
  • Fluid pressure leak to overdrive clutch due to wear of oil pump housing
  • Fault in torque converter

FYI - Good Luck

Thanks I may just end up parting it out, my wife is wanting something with 3rd row seating.

Let me know if you do - I'm looking for front springs - posted a WTB in the classifieds earlier today, and maybe the snorkel if you're letting that go.

Jeff. I've got a good / used pallet mounted 60K 2000 GV Limited engine with auto trans, that I purchased for the engine only. I'd consider selling the trans IF I had a swapped-in trans in ANY condition as long as it allowed me to continue to turn the engine over by the starter while it's stored.

PM me if you are interested. I'm in SC and I see that you are in Kentucky. Maybe it would work out if you have the opportunity to drive out this way, or have family / friends near Charleston.

PM sent.

Hey. I was looking at your older posts. Do you think that this had something to do w/the trans issue?  :-\

It will not hurt the engine at all running in 3rd, I've done it many times including a recent 5 hour trip towing a Suzuki Swift. Just keep it around 65-70mph.

Mine won't move in any gear. The transmisson fluid isn't flowing through the tranny.

I was referring to your numerous towing trips and the potentially adverse effects to your tranny, causing the current problems.  :(
