Piecing together '95 soft top parts
« on: December 15, 2010, 07:55:07 PM »
The '95 Sidekick I recently bought is missing several soft top parts.

I just recently bought all of the plastic molding that goes around the body to hold the soft top in place. Are these trim pieces just held on by double-sided tape? Should there be weatherstripping underneath? Are there any screws or clips?

Secondly, should there be weatherstripping attached to the rear bar that holds the rear soft top window? Also, should there be another pieced on top of the black plastic rail on the top of the tailgate?

I've searched high and low on several forum and site to figure this out, so any help would be awesome.

It looks like you have the same style top as the 96-98.  So on the rear bar yes, there is weather stripping.  But it tends to fall off, I need to use some double sided tape on mine as it keeps slipping whenever I open the rear door.

As for the side, I believe it bolts on.  I'll check my Tracker tomorrow and let you know.

Awesome; I truly appreciate it. I assume there must be some sort of weatherstripping under the side trim, too. And assuming it bolts to the body, there must be some clips/tabs under there, too?

No stripping, the top snaps into place similar to the weather strip on the Jeep or Samurai.

One way to tell which top you have is the bottom front corner on the side windows.  Does it have a pocket on the inside or the plastic weather stripping?

There's no weatherstripping under the plastic trim pieces?

As you can see in the photos above, I just have painted metal right now. I do have the trim parts to install, just not sure how to install them yet. If there are bolts, I don't know what they bolt to. I see the used trim parts I bought have a line of foam down the center ...

I believe the top's corners has the weatherstripping, but I'm not sure (I knew I should've driven it today!)

Does this help?

I took some pictures when I was up north then forgot to get them off the camera.  I'll try and take some more tonight.

No weather stripping on the side, there is a plastic weather strip that snaps in instead and does a pretty good job.  There are several screw holes where it bolts down.  I'll try to take a closer look.

Have you looked a the factory service manual over at Acks' Faq?  It covers the folding top:

I got the sides figured out, I just need to add some weather stripping to the back (the bar at the bottom that holds the soft window).
