Trying to remove crank bolt?
« on: January 16, 2011, 03:58:29 PM »
Ok, got this oil leak......replaced oil pan gasket....still leaking........removed timing belt cover...found oil.....timing belt is covered in slight oily film.

So I figure, replace the oil pump (front main seal) and the camshaft seal. Oh, install a new timing belt.

So here is the problem, unable to remove the bolt holding the lower timing belt pulley.  Has any one run into this before?

I am using a 1/2" drive 6 point socket on a 1/2" drive breaker bar.  I have put an extension on the breaker bar and to no avail. Broke my socket tho.  Now I may not be the strongest man but I can hold my own.

This is on a 1.6 8 valve engine.  Any and all help would be appreciated.

I have heard of people that wedge the breaker bar against the frame, then turn the engine over with the starter.  Supposedly works....but I've never had to do it that way.  I'd disconnect the coil, if I did that...don't need the engine to start.

I'd be putting some heat on it.  Was the broken socket a Hecho in China or Snapon socket?  Big difference  :-[

Socket was a snap on.  Now I have to give it to my buddy to have it replaced :'(

Guess I could try some heat.  Replacing the seal anyway so, no damage there I guess. ???

Remove the radiator and get an impact on it

Breaker bar against the frame and bumping the starter does work!! Figured that out a while back.
