YJ suspension help
« on: October 16, 2010, 09:54:40 PM »
I have the YJ missing link suspension on my 87 Sammy and I see all these pictures of guys with the same setup getting crazy suspension travel and the body of their rig is almost level with the ground still.  When I put one wheel up on a big stump or rock, the whole body of my truck tilts toward the downward side.  Why is that?  What is different about my rig and their rig?  Anybody have any ideas?

Shocks limiting travel?

No bumpstops?

you need to have a force counteracting it. so if you are on level ground and just drive on a stump with your right front, there is no force causing the left to droop. so then the truck will lean. if you want to show true articulation you need to jack up opposite tires (right front, left rear) that way there is force counter acting one another
88.5 Samurai 33" TSL, 6.5:1 Xcase Gears, 92" wheelbase, 3link rear, SPOA front w/ drop shackle, open/locked. Soon to be this spring: Toyota front and Dana44 rear w/ homemade offset.

if you don't have the jacks to do the opposite corners like MadMaxZuki says you can also pile up some stuff to drive onto or find a ditch like I did here :
1987 Tintop / 1.6 16V ps & ac / 6.4 t-case Twisted TT / 4.30 R&P Hybrid rear / Double Tough axles / Shrockworks all around / ARB f&r / Mighty Kong & TT full skid / DS disconnect / CV shafts f & r / YJ missing links f & r / Petroworks tintop cage / 15 gal Tank / 31" x 12.50 Pro Comps
