i HAVE A 92 SAMURAI.  MY STEERING WHEEL MOVES UP AND DOWN. WHEN DRIVING AND HIT BUMPS IT WIGGLES AND MAKES RATTLING NOISE. IT STEERS FINE, JUST SEEMS TO BE LOOSE. COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO GET TO FIX THIS, AND WHERE I CAN ORDER THE PARTS. THANKS!!

look for loose bolts under the dash ....... must loosen them to get the instrument cluster out .... ? have you taken your cluster out in the past

if it has tilt steering there are bolts behind horn assembly that need to tighten up

i HAVENT TAKEN CLUSTER OUT BUT PREVIOUS OWNER MIGHT HAVE. I WILL CHECK IT OUT.

I checked and no bolts are loose?

Is it the steering wheel in the column itself that moves?

If the steering wheel and the assembly behind it that holds the headlight and turn signal stalk moves with the steering wheel, then the bolts that hold the steering column assembly to the dashboard subframe are loose.

The two round-headed bolts on either side of the steering shaft housing behind the break of the dash look like allen head bolts but actually are Torx bolts requiring a torx driver available from your local auto parts store.

Otherwise you have some sort of bearing failure inside the steering column - which may also affect how the turn signals work.  Such a failure would be rare compared to loose torx bolts...

I'm betting (like others in this thread) that those torx bolts are loose.
