Hi from Grass Valley, California & Air Conditioner in Samurai
« on: August 12, 2010, 05:18:55 PM »
Hi, new here.  Located in Grass Valley, California.  I always liked the small footprint of the Samurai's and find myself in my mid 40s wanting to buy a nice stock 86 to 95 model.  Seems most common for sale are the 86s and 87s and 88s here on my local Craigslist.  Although would be nice to get a 90s model it probably will not happen.  Anyway, I am looking at a solid 86 and curious, do they make after-market air conditioning that works for Samurai's?  Just curious what A/C options are out there?  It can get rather hot around here and having a/c on longer trips would be nice.

Thanks and just wanted to introduce myself is all.

Welcome, Grass Valley, Beautiful area, I spent several weeks in Sacramento
and every weekend exploring out that way.

Air in a Sammy? might have to retrofit a unit from a Sidekick

I have seen Sammy's with and AC unit.  My brother had one for a while that was converted to on-board air so I can't tell you how well it worked.  I think most of the SE models had them.

my 1987 tintop has factory ac.
the engine was swapped to a 1.6 16v and the ac was kept but had to be converted to newer type of refrig.
also added power steering with the engine swap too.

the ac is not the best and but it does cool it down some.

I have a '91 Sammi. It did not come with an A/C. The previous owner installed an A/c from an earlier year Sammi. He also added power steering from a Toyota. I live near Placerville California, and can say without hesitation my A/C works and is appreciated. It has R-12.

I have seen Sammi A/C for sale on different Zuki sites and Ebay.
