98 Trackick sport owner, what motor swap?
« on: September 18, 2010, 05:09:47 PM »
We have a 98 tracker with a 16v motor, I was told by ZOR that, that motor was the craddle motor, and that it leaks all the time and most place wont even touch it!! Including them, they told me to swap in a 2.0 tracker motor, just wanted to see if anyone on here has done this swap or maybe other options for the swap!!! Also what is needed I searched through the formus and no one has for sure answers on what parts are needed, also if I need to use the ecm from the donor vehicle or will mine work, if the engine will bolt up to my tranny, or can I get the tranny and engine fron the donor? Also wiring?

It leaks! All the time, the way the craddled engine is built causes it to leak all the time! And it is gettimg old, have to always put a drip pan under it.

Are you talking about an engine with a girdle? Which is a cast aluminum oil
pan, it is a structural part of the block and adds support to the block.

The best thing is to not use the stock gaskets, especially if they are
cork/rubber mix, use gray silicone, a nice even don't over do it bead
and bolt it back together, the factory did this on my 1.6, I used a gasket
after a rebuild, and now I know why they used silicone.

I'm sure you can have a leak free engine, you just need to address the
problems with the right solutions

If it's a Chevy Tracker Sport, it does not have the 1.8l. Only the Suzuki Sidekick Sports got the 1.8 & redesigned frame etc. The Chevy just got the flares & alloy rims afaik. Take a pic of the engine bay for us?

Yeah you are right, I do have the 1.6, so what you said about the frame not being changed, like the sidekick, does that mean mine is the same as a 95 frame? Also does that also mean that it does not have the girdled engine? Which is what ZOR said causes all the leaks?

Of the engine, you don't know what you have and for the best information
the engine needs to be identified

Yes, & yes, you have the same 1.6l 16v as a '98 Tracker... or I think you do. The Chevy Tracker Sport only got the cosmetics (flares & alloy rims etc). Can anyone verify?
