Should fit, but the timing belt will be the problem, find that
and you are on your way.

Have a look on teamswift.net and redlinegti.com there are a few people there running this conversion.

Would this be better than the 16 v stock head? Some places say the 16v flows more.

The 1.3L DOHC GTI was a 100HP little rocket, how that HP
converts over to a heavier Sidekick and the torque factor I
can't tell you, but the 1.6 engine is a stroker 1.3, with 1mm
larger bore and 90mm stroke, about 1 inch taller block, gives
the 1.6 a huge advantage over any shorter stroke 1.3 in the
grunt department.

In theory a 1.3L head should flow good for more torque on a
larger displacement block, but theory and how it really works
are two different things.

Teamswift is a good spot to start, but most of those guys are
looking at high RPM, like 8500 and turbo applications for this
hybrid engine, poke around over there and see what they think
about this combo in NA form for power.

Personally I think it would be fine, but that's a lot of work to be
unhappy with how it turns out if it doesn't perform well for you

yes it will fit.  I think I used Honda Accord or civic DOHC timing belt. Since the swift's timing belt is like 3 or 4 teeth short.   I dont remember what year I used.  But Ill need to go back to my notes and find the info.

I've done the mechanical part of that swap. The head does fit but there are a lot of little things that you need to swear quite happily at in order to make it work in a Samurai or Sidekick because of distributor to firewall clearance, lower timing cover in order to fill the void of the taller block, it was an Acura belt that was used but I can't remember which one, and the header ends up being a PITA because of port shape and spacing and the GTI manifold dumps out over the top of the left engine mount so it won't work... The whole thing is supposed to be good for about 130-140 hp...

Some of the Swift guys are running around 300bhp at the wheels turbo-charged - I reckon that head flows OK.
