clutch pedal...which year?
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:37:40 PM »
90 Geo Tracker 2dr, 8v, 5spd.  The clutch pedal is broken on this second rig I bought.  I went to the wrecking yard and found one with a clutch pedal, as the guy started to take it off...20 minutes later I said let me give it a try, and when I got under there I noticed the spring and pedal assy. were completely different from the old 90 pedal I had brought with me.  It was also about 1/2" shorter on the shaft.  The one we were pulling it off of was a 95.
So, apparently Geo/Suzuki used two different kinds of clutch pedals, it appears the return spring linkage is entirely different on my 90 from that 95.  What gives?
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things.  Right now I am so far behind, I will never die.

Wondering what year is the crossover...
That's what I think, I assume they did it as an upgrade, maybe the style that I have used to have problems?
Hopefully someone could chime in.  Hawk sells for $40 a good used assy. so not a big deal, this guy wants $25 but I don't think it will fit the same.

I have found the bodys to be the same for the most part, your
early model is probably Japanese built, and the 95' is probably
CAMI (Canada) built, and that might just be the difference because
the clutch pedal is built in another country

What is the first part of the VIN? have a JS in it???

Both are CAMI Built, so the pedal should swap over, look at the mounting
bolts and see if that looks the same

Well I don't know the VIN of this 95 I was trying to remove the pedal from.  Maybe it's a Japanese built one then

I know they are different and a pain in the ass.  On my 96 I ended up taking apart the assembly and welding a new end on it, then putting a new end on the clutch pedal to allow it to mount.  The original mounting for the clutch pedal was a really bad weld on the end of the shaft that ended up breaking.

I would look at removing the entire pedal assembly instead of just trying to get the clutch.  The two assemblies can be swapped out for each other without issues.

I know they changed the pedal assemblies in 96.  Are you sure it wasn't a 96, instead of a 95?  Did it have airbags?

Will at Hawk Suzuki today told me that 89-90 are different from the rest.  I got another one coming now, should be here next week.
I was trying to work out a trade for the entire Tracker for two pieces of "hunting equipment" that someone posted a want ad for on craigslist looking for a geo tracker, but if I get it running, who knows what I willl do...

Good to know.  I wasn't sure if there were any changes in the 89-95 timeframe or not.

At least, that's what I was told.  89-90 were different from the rest.
Anyone know what the difference is in the transfer case for that same model year?  Why a 4.24:1 will only fit 91-98, not the older style?

Ya, it's the cover on the earlier t-case, inside is shallower by like 1/4 to 3/8 inch

Ya, the front part of the case is different inside, outside looks the same
and even looking at the two side by side the difference is not obvious
until you look closely, then you will see it
