strut tower brace from 97 Sidekick Sport-FITMENT
« on: August 17, 2010, 11:47:39 PM »
At the wrecking yard today there were two Trackkicks left :( the old man is going to retire soon and crushed a lot of Sidekicks, Trackers, and he used to have many, many Samurais.  Pretty sad, since I don't remember seeing ANY of them all too trashed, on the west coast we don't have salt/rust issues as much either so they were all good tubs, if anything, that's the saddest part.

Anyways, of the two rigs, one was a 97 Suzuki Sidekick Sport 4dr auto 1.8L.  It has a factory strut tower brace across the top of the engine.  It's 40 bucks, the guy said, if I wanted it.  Seems reasonable.  I'm sure I could resell it for that much if I had to.
Question is, would it fit on my Tracker with an 8v engine?  Would it clear the air intake tube, under the hood, etc?  Doesn't seem like there's much height there, but wondering if someone else has done it.
My rig is a 90 Tracker 2dr with an 8v engine.

23 views and no answer ???
I may have answered my own question.  I opened my hood to find that the factory airbox on my 8v partially covers the strut mount, so I would have to use a different air intake.
Also, it appears that the upper strut mounts on this 4dr Sidekick Sport are wider, spaced further apart, than on my 2dr 90 Tracker.  So that also looks like it won't work.
If anyone has anything else to say, let me know.

The frames are wider in the sports...so therefore the strut towers are spaced farther apart.  So even if you could get it to clear everything, you would have to narrow it up to get it to bolt to the towers.

not sure if this helps, but in the general forum I posted some pictures of the strut tower brace in mine while answering a related question.  It is under the topic "wheel size, not tires".

A sport brace goes over the top of the engine, instead of around the front, like yours.

across the top would be better, the tolerances are too tight with the air cleaner box, valve cover and remote fuse box IMO.

Yes, that Sport model's brace was over the top.  That's a nice looking one Medford, so is that part of the Pro Comp kit that they don't make anymore?

Yes, part of the lift.  I have a shot or two of the strut towers if you would like, or do you have a handle on what you are going to do?
