Oil Leak in my Sami
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:37:12 PM »
I just bought a 1987 Sami Special Edition and LOVE it,but I noticed it's dripping quite a bit of oil from around the front of the engine, not sure if its the front seal, rear seal, oil pan...do you think I should replace all the seals?

Front main and or cam seal, but while you are in there you might
as well replace the timing belt, water pump and if you have lots
of miles the oil pump too, the oil pump is a bit of a pain, there are
studs on the front that make getting it off difficult, I replaced mine
with bolts instead, and the oil pan needs to be dropped some to
allow a good seal between the new pump and the pan.

Also check the oil pressure gauge sender unit.

Thanks for the advice Wild and Ranger....I'm a newbie at this and appreciate all the help I can get...how difficult on on a scale of 1-10 is changing the timing belt...Are there any pics or diagrams?(I'm one of those visual type learners)or would I be better off bringing it to a shop? Thanks again,Pappy

Timing belt is not hard, I would just line up the marks before
you take the belt off, then put the new one on, not a big deal
at all, I would give it a 2, the oil pump is a # 7, gets a little involved
