Swap a 8V to a 16V

Hey all, I have a 93 1.6 8V engine in my tracker and I bought a trashed 95 Tracker with a 1.6 16V. I am going to do a swap after I rebuild the engine. I did a search on how to do a swap and what I need to swap but I can't find a topic on this. I am sure that I am not the first to do this. Just wondering on how much work this is, if any one knows of a topic that already coverd this could you send me the link. Thanks all. Guy.

I put a 1994 16v in my 89 sidekick. What I did was to swap the computer wiring and the fuse panel. Little differences where I needed to change headlight bulbs due to different plugs and everything behind the dash pluged in. I did use the 94 dash due to the extra digit on odometer and I will know motor mileage. Only splicing I had to do was the plug to the rear. Soldered all connections and shrink wrapped and have not had any issues. My 4x4 lights even work and donor was 2wd. Only issue I have is donor had antilocks so brake light is always on.

Thats great info, thanks, I didn't think off changing the fuse panel. I am thinking of selling the 8V to a local person and I need to remove all the parts I need from the donor vehicle so I can get rid of it before my wife kicks me out because of too many vehicles in yard, lol. I was told that I also need to change the computer and also the speedo cluster, not sure why the cluster but I will do it anyways. The donor vehicle also has power steering but I don't plan to use it because I need all the power I can get to turn my 31" tires. If anyone else can think of anything else I should remove please let me know. Guy.

Do not be afraid of the power steering. A power steering pump pulls almost no horse power when the vehicle is going straight. The only time it pulls energy is when you are actually turning the wheel. If you are upgrading to a 16v you are not even going to notice the difference between power and manual steering in engine power. Your forearms will thank you on the trail though. If you are running stock gearing with your 31's you need to re-gear. 5.62 R&P's are available from Suzuki. You can also find them on Car-Part.Com.

Well that helps lots, I began removing the donor engine today and the power steering looks like a real easy install to my vehicle, I was thinking of maybe using the power steering and after that info I am thinking I will. You are right, Power steering would be nice and helpfull when off roading. Thanks again for helping me make up my mind on using it.
I will do some looking on changing the gears and how much the parts will cost me. Guy.

Well the engine is out, now its time to take it apart and begin to rebuild it. Time to do some research and see what camshaft  I should buy and get some info on who can port the head. I hope to get an extra 20HP from it with an cold air intake, exhaust, cam, and better flowing head. If anyone has already done this please send me some infor on your build of a 1.6 16V engine.
