Another Question about Yota S.A.S. and 33s
« on: January 13, 2010, 06:39:38 PM »
Howdy all,  it's almost tax time again and I'm ready to start gathering parts for my Yota swap ;D!!  I have found a full rolling chassis from a Toyota P-up, that has 5.29 gears ;D.  The guy who has the parts is a suspension builder who used to build monster trucks :o (ie. Overkill).  He is working on a design on auto-cad and it's probably gonna be a 4-link, panhard bar, coil/shock setup.  What I need to know before I plunk down cash for the chassis is, will the 5.29s be enough for 33" mudders with the 1.6 16v and 4 speed auto ???? I want to get the best gas mileage I can, more for bragging rights than budget.  I'd like to run the Toy T-case with the Tracker case if it's possible,  I read in a really old post about the Kicker 3 from OTT to bolt the cases together?  Is this still available?  This is for daily my driver/weekend wheeler so I really need the durability of the Yotas.

Sorry if this kind of question has been asked already,  I'm clueless when it comes to gearing.  BTW I'm not starting on the swap any time soon (I will be $$tapped out$$ after the axles and metal for links), but I will grab this chassis in the next couple weeks if it has the gears/axles/t-case I need.  Thanks for any help, Matt

No, 5.29 is too high for a stock type ratio with 33s, if you don't
have any t-case high range reduction, you want to be closer to 5.6
to 5.8, 5.8 is right for 35" tires

So maybe I need a Sammi case instead of the Toy case to work withe the 5.29s?

Ya, or swap out the Toy axle gears for lower ones

So if I can grab this chassis for about 500 bucks it'll still be worth it, even if I gotta still get gears or a sammi case?

I think it might be, depends on what all is there, I don't know
what the axles sell for at a wrecking yard either, for $500 I think
I would rather have low T-case gears and lockers

As far as I know it's a complete chassis, I'm pretty sure it has the 22RE 4 banger, I'm thinkin I'll sell the engine and trans to try and make back some of the cost of the fab and materials.
