motor swap
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:53:27 PM »
hello everyone new here and new to the sidekicks, i got a 92 geo tracker, and im doin a motor swap, the truck came with an extra motor, not sure on what year etc, but i was just wondering if the motor will be  a straight swap, from year to year are there any differences, or should everything go smoothly, i know a few parts are broke and have to be changed so just trying to think ahead of time. thanks

Hard to tell, usually the black plastic in the intake is from a 16v.

Does it have a plane valve cover on it?  Also do you have a fuel rail with multiple injectors on it or a single throttle body system on your spare and vehicle?

There should also be a stamp on the back of the block that lists the block version.  G16A or something similar.

A couple of pictures would also help in identifying it.  Being a 92 2dr you most likely have the 1.6 8v engine unless somebody did a swap.

a 16 Valve will have the plugs going through the valve cover . the 8 valve the plugs go along the side of the head .
as fare as the exchange , eather will bolt up as they are the same block .
but as was stated you need to know what  type of  fule system .
if its a TBI " throttle body  or a TPI " Tuned port " type of fuel injection .

im not sue about the electronics  that suzuki  used between the two . but normaly the TPI takes a diffrent ECM then a TBI .
so if  both engines have the same  injection system  it will just drop in .

i could be wrong here as i have never compaierd the diffrence between a 2 WD and a 4wd  suzuki or tracker .
however i can tell you that  in most cases with other vehicals "Chevy , Ford , Dodge "
there is no  real diffrence  other then the rear output housing on the trany is removed and a transfer case bulted on .  of course the front  end is also changed out .
sometimes a heavier suspention is used , but alot of times not

remeber most  vehicals are built  to  cut production costs . as such i have found that many times  the frames will be drilled and ready for eather a 4X4 or 2WD application .
now IH is the acception . they made  vehicals spacific . so there is a diffrence from the 2WD  to 4WD and between the 4Cylinder models and the V8

sorry , more then you ask for , i know .

again i would say if the injectins are the same  you can just drop it in . if they are diffrent , it should still drop in but you may need a diffrent ECM

ok,thanks that helped lots, the other block has that g16a stamped on it and i dont see any injectors so im assuming its tbi, aswell the plugs go in at an angle right under the one side of the valve cover so, with all that, im assuming there the same motors. shoulb be a straight swap, i hope haha. pics to come.
