Softtops in the rain
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:21:22 AM »
I am on my second Tracker.  In a heavy rain today I was amazed at how much water came off of the top and into the truck when I opened the door.  With my first Tracker I never noticed this as badly and I had it for 3 years.  Do some soft tops have better rain guttering and flow management than others?  This Tracker does have an aftermarket top.

The factory tops have an extra flap here and there to keep wind, rain, etc. out.  And they usually fit a little better/tighter than the aftermarket tops do.

Might be the aftermarket top.  I have a Bestop on mine and there is no problems with the rain.  I'm surprised how well it keeps the water out, but a bit can get in if it's nice and stormy with a really strong cross wind.

Water is not getting in when the top is on and the doors are closed, but it cascades in when the door is opened.

You either have an old stretched out top, a top that is not installed properly or a realy cheap top. When you are driving at interstate speeds does the top bubble up above the drivers head and you get a lot of wind noise from above the door? If so trash your top and get a new one....

I need to trash this one anyway.  It's windows are nearly opaque.  Will have to wait a bit though.  Actually with this top if the top is snapped to the rear bar then the 'sunroof' part won't close.  Somehow it shrunk over the years.
