Did you follow the factory recommended procedure for timing the engine?

How do your plugs look after driving for awhile?

Have you got a check engine light showing? Have you still got the EGR valve linked up?

plugs are ok a little dark, and the egr is hooked up..and the timing is lined up with the notch on the bottom and top...i do however have a offset key in the timing gear?

I've had zukes that loved to ping until I spent the money on high octane fuel. Some didn't mind the cheap stuff but the first one was bad.

I had gone fishing with my dad....had the canoe on the top and heading 6 hours away. We pulled into the gas station and he pumped....I shifted into second gear and told him that he put in the wrong fuel. He told me that there was no way that I'd notice so I told him to drive. When we fueled up the second time he took the wheel and as soon as he hit the gas to shift he told me that he had thought I was crazy but now he could feel the difference.....

i had tried to adjust the timing but it never helped....try the fuel and see. I checked on the amount of milleage I got and the extra cost showed in the extra milleage...unless I drove with my foot to the floor.

Did you use a jumper to keep the computer from messing with the timing while you were adjusting it?

You need to find out if your timing mark is accurate and then double check both the valve timing and the ignition timing.
You need the jumper, its the same plug as the CEL but a different terminal.

ha ha ha. got it!!! that little key i put in there is offset 4 degrees. which meens that my timing needed to be set at 4 degrees...lol..and thanks to rhinoman for the little jumper trick..that makes it a hell of alot easier to time... now she has got that midrange jump and no stinking raw fuel smell....and best of all no ping ping...
