tracker clutch noise
« on: June 29, 2009, 02:02:08 PM »
I have a 94 2dr 4x4 tracker lsi . I broke my 3rd member yesterday, which is ok because I have been expecting it to happen for sometime now, but on my way home the transmision started making noises. As soon as i touch the clutch pedal the transmision starts to squell, a noise very similar to a squeling belt. The furter in i push the clutch the louder it gets. When its in neutral or driving in a gear there is no problem and no noises. If i shift fast there is no noise however if i take my time shifting you can hear the noise. The clutch, throwout bearing and pilot bearing are new. not even 2 months old however im not ruling one of these out becuase the tracker has a snorkel and is in deep water every weekend. I metioned the 3rd member brakeing incase they are related but i dont think they are. Any help or past experiences with this sort of thing would be greatly apretiated  Also I am a new member and this is my first post  Thanks! chris

I would think that your release bearing probably has some mud/contamination in it or it has failed early. When you shift fast it's not getting the time to slow down to make the noise. Take it apart as soon as you can because it will take out the pressure plate.

One of the bad things about playing in water is that we can't seal up everything and it's not like we can take a bath in clean water when we get home.

Just an update on this .... I drove the tracker to work the next day with the transmision still squelling, after work i went to get into it to go home and it would start but would not shift into gears. I got it home and droped the transmision to find that the clutch release bearing or "throw out bearing" was completly seezed up to the point that when i pushed the clutch petal in it broke all the fins off of the presure plate. I must have gotten water in the bell housing and spun all the grease off the bearing.

Just an update if anyone has this problem in the future.
