Tracker Door handles
« on: June 13, 2009, 08:56:57 AM »
Wife unit started to exit the Tracker a couple days ago and the inside door handle suddenly "let go".  The body (not handle) cracked on it.  These things have always been made of plastic with a spring and a pin in them.  They do break occassionally.  I still had a few door handles from my 1st gen trucks in my parts buckets but no new ones... so I put a door handle on my shopping list to the local pick-n-pull.
While I was there I decided to pull an extra wiindow crank and I grabbed a couple more door handles (right and left side).  I even found one that had a broken handle, but the body was in good shape.  I came home and took the two broken handles apart and made one good handle out of the two and replaced the broken handle.  Out of curiosity, I called my local Chevy dealer to get an inside door handle priced.  The replacement cost from my  local Chevy dealership for these simple little door handles was $43 each!!!!   I got five door handles and a window crank for $25 at the pick-n-pull.  A good deal.

That's a heck of alot better than paying $43 dollars for one!!!  I cannot believe the amount of  bureaucracy that would be required to actually have to charge a customer (with a straight face) $43 bucks for one of these things.
