Track/Kick on portals, rear wheel steer
« on: August 22, 2004, 07:33:06 AM »
Saw this at the National 4x4 Show today. Its a Vitara with Volvo Portal Axles, rear wheel steering and a 2.9V6 Ford engine. It was built by a guy called Neil Whitford who previously built a rear wheel steer Sammi based buggy. The Vit was on the AWDC stand

I like portal axles. Just look how high the diff is in relation to the center line of the wheels. Can you say clearance

Big fan of 4w steering.  Anyone else around here ever tried it?  Probably too much of an undertaking for me to ever get around to.  Especially with all the other stuff to do to my Sammi ::)

They're Volvo axles, probably off a military truck. I don't know much about them except that they're very hard to come by as they get bought up in large quantities and shipped to the States for rock crawlers. I know Neil had to paid a LOT of money for them.
