Link bar lenghts
« on: April 09, 2009, 07:59:48 AM »
Did alot of searching but didn't find too much on the lenght of link arms. I am doing a 4 link in the back and a 3 link in the front. I am thinking I would like my links to be in the 36" lenght. However the way it is mocked up the fall around 30" eye to eye. Any body that has done this I would realy apreciate your input befor I cut up all that expensive tubing to the final sizes.
Any pics would help as well. I will finish the mock up tack welding this weekend and try to get some pics up monday and see what everyone thinks. Thanks in advance. ???

I just finished a 4 link, lower links are at 35", upper links at 26.75"

Runs great down the road, haven't had it out on the trails yet.  But it soaks up the bumps zipping across the field without a problem.  :D

We used the 4-link calculator from the eXtremem Off-Road website and information from a 4 Wheel Off-Road article on designing your own 4-link for the recommended lengths of the top vs bottom and such.

One major change we did over standard convention was to mount the upper links along side the frame rails.  This was a maximize ground clearance but did increase the roll steer.  Talking to others as long as you keep it below 7% you should be fine.  We are around 5% depending on the link setup we use.

No problem.  :)

Here is a link to a recap of the article:

http://www.muddtanks.com/4LinkSuspArticle.htm

And the article itself:

http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techarticles/suspension/131_0307_four_link_suspension_part_2/index.html
Part two has all the bits about numbers.  :)

If you place the lower links below the frame or just inside with a cross member it is much easier to get all your numbers to match up on the calculators.  :D  Post some pics of your build as you do it, and start thinking of your exhaust now.
