I already had the front cross member rot out, now the other day I saw a hole rotted out through my rear driver side shock mount.  It's still attached, the hole is in the side.  I"m putting it up on a lift on Friday hopefully to take a look underneath to see if there's any other spots on the frame rusting out. 
     
     Anybody else having any other problems with rust?  My wifes '01 XL-7's frame is in much better shape than mine, she has 75000 miles on hers. Mine has 90000. 

My frame isn't too bad, but I think the front sway bar mounting area will be first to go.  I had two holes in the floor so far that I could stick my arm through and touch the ground.  Also, a really bad panel where the cargo door latches.  Lots of welding lately.

If you can get it rust free and want to keep it that way buy this stuff and do a proper job with it.

I've got the same problems too, unfortunately laying on my back you just don't see as much as you do up on a lift.  Only thing thats really bad is the oil pan is getting pretty ugly looking, to tell you the truth the underside looks like I drive through a salt mine to work every day.  Oh well, for now I just cleaned it up and shot everything with WD 40 to try and slow the rust down. Forgot about that - my oil pan looks awful too. Surprised it isn't leaking yet.

Canadian here to tell you all about keeping the rust away as sometimes i experience all four seasons in one day here.......snow and ice and salt are big too........OK the list

EVENTUALLY all steel frames will rust you can only prolong it 250000 km on my 2000 tracker and its just starting to change colors in certain areas but no serious rust

#1 OIl Spray Every year before snow (your choice of spray and wether to take it in or not make it something to do with your best buddy over a beer or something. 100$
#2 Buy really good floor matts....yes you heard me buy floor matts that actually catch water and snow you will save yourself rust headaches since water collects near the mounts INside thus rust happens. 25$ each
#3 Go over your vehicle and change every bolt and nut you can change safely with a better quality one and oil it proper before putting it back in.100$
#4 I did this on my own you dont have to but I did it because i have the shop and space and time to do it but get rid of factory rust protection measures And replace it with that rhino bedcover stuff or something similiar 500$
#5 check factory recalls i have heard that some cross members are covered due to poor factory rust protection or painting

Thanks for the tips, unfortunately I'm a little beyond replacing hardware at this point.  It just got away from me, and now it's pretty much too late, just going to see how much time I can get out of it.

That bad?? well then guess its a farm or offroad only vehicle now it still has many year even if its rusted out......mechanicaly these thing run along time.....I would not get caught with this vehicle on the road it its that bad mto might fine you (they would here in canada especially if you can see the road from your cab

I think I can get a few more years out of it, I just wish I realized sooner, but with working two jobs and supporting a family, I just do what I have to do to keep my vehicles running right now.  A friend of mine wants it for a hunting vehicle.
