Hey everybody,

I just recently replaced the CV axleshaft on my Suzuki Swift. One of the caliper bolts broke off in the slider pin. I ordered an easy out bit and a tap and die set but they will take a week to get here so I ordered a new caliper. It missed the truck and now I have to wait 'til Wednesday but the wife needs to get to work until then ( All freeway driving ). It's the forward bolt on the caliper so until the caliper gets here I simply welded the caliper to the slider. The caliper is cast and I know it's not a good idea to weld to cast.

My question is... am I sending her to work in a deathtrap? or should it be ok for a few days? About 2hrs freeway driving daily.

P.S. I'm more than ready for any ridicule my redneck brake repair may bring on me so don't hold back.

I wouldn't let her drive it! How would you feel if something happened? Not saying it will but I know I wouldn't chance it!

Not worth it.  The last thing you want to happen is the other bolt to break.  The caliper will clamp onto the rotor and go around the wheel, breaking your brake lines.

Check with your local auto-parts store, see if they have a tool set you can borrow.

you might as well go to your nearest hospital and just hang out in the waiting room

thanks for the advice I figured as much that's why I asked. I live in a very remote erea and sometimes it's difficult to get parts quickly. This time the wife will have to take a few days off while I wait.

Harbor frieght sells easy outs that are pretty decent and any NAPA should have them as well.
