ruff idle??

ruff idle??

So i have a 1.6 tracker and it has a miss when idling????Ive changed the cap,wires,plugs,coil?It seems to run fine and has all power it only does it when its idling.Any ideas guys?Ecm maybe or could it be the plug gap?What is the gap on those?

If it's fuel injected just after the air box disconnect the ducting from the air box and you should see a butterfly valve if it is black and dirty in there around that butter fly valve take a rag and sensor safe carb cleaner and clean that black stuff out of there and that should solve your problem. I had a car that did the same and I did that and it was good to go. Hope this helps.

its a 1992 and i forgot to say ive cleaned the whole air intake.thanks for the input

Not to question your diagnosis, but are you sure it's a miss? Meaning are you sure it's an ignition issue? Have you pulled the plug wires one at a time to see if it is one particular cylinder?

It sounds to me like a vacuum line problem. Those little bastards can cause stuff like that and are easy to miss. >:(

Spark plug gap is .028", but honestly, I changed the plugs when I bought mine and they were .040 :o and it still ran/idled smoothly (runs better now,though!)

that sounds like an idea.how do i go about checking the vaccum hoses???theres enuf to plumb my camper under the hood.lol.maybe soap and water and look for bubbles???

Not unless you are trying to wash out the internals of that motor.  ;) Vacuum, remember?

Vacuum lines are almost always little 1/4" hoses. Just check all the little hoses going here and there. Look for anything not connected. If you find one hanging loose, look for a nipple it belongs to. Look for cracks in the hoses - they get old and brittle If you find some use electrical tape to seal it off and see if it fixes the problem, then replace the hose ASAP.

So what if the hoses are hooked up to the wrong nipples?i got a ton of that hose so im just gonna replace them all.Ill let you know.

to find a vacuum leak just get brake cleaner or carb cleaner an spray around the engine if there is a leak the engine will have a dif pitch to it when your around the area. then just look for the leak
