Im wanting to do a DIY snorkel on my sidekick. any pics of what has been done or some suggestions?

I made mine out of PVC pipe, Ill get some pics tomorrow and post em' up.

2" PVC is NOT the way to go. Restricts airflow quite a bit.

I used 2" coupling to short straight, 45* bend up, 90* bend out, short straight, 90* bend back, 45* bend up to the longer straight to go up the pillar to a 45* bend up and a 90* that I can rotate forward/backward. I removed the upper fender piece and notched it and bolted it back on.

Good lookin' snorkle, but that sure don't look like a yellow 2000s/R

Can't hardly see it at all from the driver seat, the pillar hides it almost completelly. I'm using the stock airbox with a coupling on the end of the 2" PVC to make it the right OD to fit the stock ID of the flexible coupling that goes to the factory airbox.

now for the real question..... have you tested it underwater?

If it is sealed properly, you should be able to put your hand over the end of it and it will kill the motor. Be careful though, we quickly found the weak spot on the oil pan in my friends Tracker!

On my snorkel I used pvc from the box to the joints then put on a piece of 2 1/2" exhaust pipe for the part that is exposed. Then I welded up a square box for the top with an opening on the bottom for the air inlet. I like the look of the metal instead of the PVC like my friends have.

That smallish pipe you are using will have some HP reduction
for the engine, it takes a bigger tube to flow the required
air thru the tube and around the bends.

I removed the turbo and retained the intake system and
with it in that condition I noticed a big drop from stock
HP, so much that I went out and got a filter that clamps
on to the end of the 8V intake cast tube, much better

I would also suggest not to put any 90 degree bends in it. That will really mess up the flow.

what if i did the 2'' under the hood and when i can clear it i go to like a 3''-3.5''. or will the 2'' just cancel that out? and when i get to doing mine ill see if i can pull off two 45 bends instead of the two 90s under the hood.

The bigger tubing will be better, and the 2" won't cancel it out, the
thing with small tubing is basically friction, small tubes have more drag
from faster moving air, slower moving air flows easier with less drag
