Last week I was helping out a friends uncle and he then offered me a set of sammi axels.  He is goin to switch out   his sammi axels with toyota solids.  I tried to get as much information about Why he wants to do this swap, but he really had no idea what he was talking about. 

should I persue this offer with the sammi straits??

would it be worth the trouble over my IFS??

Whats the difference between the toyota and the sammi straits??

the toyota axles are offset in the front and centered in the rear, a bit stronger. I don't think you want the sami axles if your going to put them in a kick you need the centered diff to keep the rear drive shaft from vibrating to much. but you might be able to sell the sami axles and fund the toyota stuff

You can use the steel thirds for a swap for your front alum.

Also, I have an old sami axil that I'm going to convert into a steel front axil housing. 
This is a thought if you still have an alum. one.

There's no point in putting a Samurai rear axle in a Sidekick, Sidekick axles are stronger.

As for the front axle, I wouldn't be too opposed. You will need 1.5" wheel spacers on each side because Sammy axles are 3" narrower than Kick axles. If you're planning to run big tires (33") and low gears then you might want to look into some aftermarket axleshafts and Longfield joints to preserve the drivetrain.

Most people put in Toyota axles cause they are wider and stronger but it's alot of work and the gearing isn't quite right. The lowest gears you can put in a Toy axle is 5.29:1, which is about right for 33's, but any bigger and your little 1.6 won't be hitting 4th gear on the freeway anymore.

The IFS on quads and side by sides is pretty much the same size as a zuks, yet the quads and side by sides way about 1000 less.


And there are 5.71 R&ps out for yota axles.

I have not had even the slightest problems with the IFS.   Im the only IFS vehicle that wheels with my group and they seem to think that solid is the only way to go.  I guess if solid axles were so great the army would put them on the H1......   Im young and dumb is my only excuse.  If its not broke dont fix it  "my grandpa"

That sounds like to much work   for something that I really wont benifit from (samurai axles)

But everything else was sitting on a dana or a rockwell 2.5.

If the IFS does everything you want it to do...Run it!

Comparing a quad to a 4x4 truck is like saying apples = oranges. There is no comparison and if you think there is no reason to swap out yer IFS to a SAS then you don't wheel hard enough.
2 main weak point in the Track/Kick IFS... The aluminum 3rd member and the CV shafts... Both very well known not to stand up to lockers and larger than 31" tires (especially in reverse and hard on the skinny pedal)
As for swapping in the Sammi axle... I say go for it. It's not really that hard to do and all the steering components from the Track/Kick will bolt right to the sammi pitman arm.
A freind of mine has done the swap from the track/kick IFS to the Sammi SAS and it looks like Suzuki had it in there minds to do this in the drawings. If done right is looks stock with Sammi leaf springs and fits like a glove.
Really the only thing you have to make is sprin perches to the fram and then cut out the coil buckets from the frame and add some steel to that area to give it back the strength.
I say if ya have the means... Go for it. Once you do the swap you will wonder why ya never did it sooner.

Thanks alot kelly ill take it into consideration.   If I decide to do the swap it definitely wont be before the melt,  but if I do ill be sure to post up.

Depends on the kind of wheeling you're talking about. SAS is great if ALL you want to do is crawl. I still think IFS holds it's own, and in many ways is better than solid. Not saying solid isn't good, just saying it's over rated.

Both easily corrected with Toyota CVs and steel front third. Guys have been very happy with this conversion. Holds up to lots of abuse, works great in the rocks.

Check out all your options, and try to match one with the kind of wheeling you're wanting to do.
