California smog.
« on: June 14, 2008, 01:24:14 PM »
Most people i have talked to about getting a samurai california smogged says they rarely pass. Im going for it anyway in a couple days. Does anyone know really how hard it is to pass and what you need to do to prepare? i changed the oxygen sensor, cap, rotor, plug, plug wires, air filter, oil change and even put premium fuel in it. thanks.
If oils leaking out, Dirts not getting in!

A new cat really helped me out a lot.
I also took mine to a smog shop where the guy tuned then engine so it would pass.
When i got it back it barley ran...but hey it passed smog and all i had to do was set everything back to normal and it was good to go.

You can also run a tank of gas treatment thorough it too, it might help out.

Good luck

take  it to a place that will test without linking to the dmv first. i use a place that says "don't pass - don't pay".
it costs a bit more($70), but allows you to make repairs without getting on the "gross polluters list".
avoid that!
sounds like you got it covered re:maintenance stuff.
if it runs good and check engine light works right, you'll probably be fine.

Go here:
http://acksfaq.com/

Get the FSM. Go over the chapter on emissions (I think 13?). Get a can of sea foam, and use it - $7.

I've had sami's in Cali for years. I've only had one issue with SMOG. Looks like I can just swap out my cat to get it to pass... working on that tomorrow.

Don't forget since you are in CA there is a program to help out a bit as well

http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResources/ftp/pdfforms/CAP_App.pdf

It isn't income dependent and I have used it twice so far.  New Cat back system 2" the first time and an egr vavle the second time

You pay the first $100 and then the state pays the next $500

GET A NEW GAS CAP!! Trust me...

I always have one on hand. I tell the people smoging my car I have a new one with me, and if the one on the vehicle fails, to try the new one. Out of DOZENS of SMOG tests, I've only needed it once. Returned the other caps to Wal-Mart or Kragen.
