Which wheel 7" or 8" cj?
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:24:37 PM »
I'm going to run a 31x 10.5 BFG mud terrain.I can have a choice between a 7" cj rim and a 8" cj rim what would you choose from your experience? What would fit better or would there be much of a difference ?My tracker is a 95 with a 2" suspension lift and it's going to have a 2-3" body lift. What are your opinions and thoughts?

i have an '89 with a 2" suspension and 1 1/8" body lift.
i tried both and experience rubbing inside rear of the front wells and just a touch outside middle of the rear wells with the 8" rims. this included a little "bend in" reshaping of rear of the front fender to clear the outside and beating in the rear inside a little also.
probably not a problem with a larger body lift.
i went with the 7" wide ones, and 31x10.5 is probably max for them.
i think

the 7" are much better for my little lift. on flex/turn i still touch up in the rear of the front wells, but so minor i don't care(i sprayed a white primer in there to show touching).
i think the offset difference was probably the deal, and with a little more massaging(or more body lift) i could have made the 8" work.
i had 235's on it before and like the bigger tire so far.

I run 1.5 coil spacers and a 2" body lift and 7" CJ rims. Works great. Tires stuff COMPLETELY but it took a bit of hammering and cutting to make them fit.
