1992 tracker shock mount
« on: March 15, 2008, 07:23:52 AM »
My rear drivers side shock broke away from the frame.  Do they make a replacement mount, or am I going to have to weld it on? The frame is rusted and I am not sure a weld will hold, plust I think it is illegal!!

Nobody has any ideas.  Surely this has happened to somebody else on the forum.

What method would you choose other than welding? Honestly, if your frame is so rusted that you don't think a weld would hold, you have bigger trouble than a shock mount. As for being illegal, I would think that welding it would be the closest thing to OEM spec - what surpasses that?
Just clean it up, weld it on, and undercoat it. Check the other side while you're under there.

thanks. my buddy said he thinks it is legally supposed to be driiled and bolted?? I have no clue.  He said you can't weld on a frame or it will not pass inspection.  I believe the other side is welded from factory.

Try to find a welding shop who are approved to welded on a frame.....it's gonna be legal that way..

its just a shock they are for comfort you don't even need them to pass safety, as far as welding there is not a ton of stress on the bracket you will be fine with a decent weld I can do it for you I live in cedar hills though and I didn't even think to look where your from

Ahhh! Inspection. They don't inspect anything in central Ohio (except your registration money). I still maintain that a good weld is better than bolting it on any day. I'd get it welded and undercoat everything to match on both sides... but this comes from a guy who doesn't have to worry about inspections ::)
