« on: January 10, 2008, 10:33:26 AM »
What would be a good estimate for a shop to install a glasspack and 2" pipe from cat. ?

Well, I was quoted $60 a while back to put it in with the stock tail pipe, but I wanted to go a little bigger after the muffler.  I didn't know how much it would cost to bend the tail pipe and everything.

Does adding a glass pack, running a strait pipe, etc, do anything besides change the sound?

How does it increase power unless ya change the whole exhaust system from the catylitic converter all the way back? With the size of exhaust on a stock 'Kick it needs to be opened up all the way back to relieve the exhaust flow restriction to make more power. Or without adding a header for that matter... or without opening the intake air up with say an open element filter?
I took my cherry bomb off. It made the fuel mileage worse on my 16v and it sounded like a fart can honda. Annoying as hell and hides other noises yer rig may make. Barely even hear my stereo over that noise.
I would suggest a header, high flow cat back system and also an open element intake air cleaner. Look into another type of high flow mufler... But thats just my 2 cents.
Remember... the more air flowing in and the faster you can get it out will create more power... Not just a glass pack

So are you saying that reducing backpressure with a glasspack and 2" exhaust will not help performance? ???  I agree that a performance header would definitely help more significantly, but the decrease in backpressure will help, too.

What I am saying is this... if there is any gain in power it would be barely noticeable fom just installing a glass pack cherry bomb muffler. I had one on my 4dr and it made nuthn but noise... Only reason why I did install it was I noticed the stock muffler was hitting the u-joint at the diff when fully flexed out. Only thing I noticed was I could not hear her cry for help and I got alot of headaches from noisy exhaust tone...

The glasspack is installed, now.  It cost $30 for the muffler and $25 for a local muffler shop to bend and weld a piece of pipe to compensate for the offset of the factory muffler.

I used clamps to install the muffler in case it wears and I need to replace it later or if I want a different muffler later.

It sounds great.  I love it.  The only drawback is, my wife loves the sound of it too and wants to drive it all of the time.     I love my wife!

If anybody needs info about the installation, just PM me and i will answer your questions or take more pics.
