Why do this??
« on: October 08, 2007, 05:19:39 PM »
Why do lots of people swap out there aluminum front axle housings for the steel ones when they could easily put a skid plate below the diff.  Its cheaper and way less time consuming.  Is there another reason they do this?  Are the internals stronger?

The aluminum diff will break under stress.
Front tire gets stuck/wedged
Try and power out and the pinion will try and crawl around the ring-gear and
SNAP!!

Yeah, the weakness is not from impacting the ground, but from internal stress created by bigger tires, more traction and offroading...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...
