Help! Lost all horsepower
« on: September 11, 2007, 03:51:30 PM »
Could someone please help?  Have a 1988 samurai with calminin header and exhaust, and a weber 32/34 carb. Had lots of horse power and torque, till we added the 29/10.5/15 Trxus sts
tires and american racing wheels. What happened to the get up and go this samurai had.
What do we need to do to get back where we we're before the wheels and tires? This is also a dailey driver so would still like to get half way decent gas mileage.  Do we need to re -gear or what?  If so what gear. Please help.  Thanks.

Re-gearing should bring back most of the power.  You can either get new differential gears or just a 4:1 transfer case gear set.  That should bring you right back into stock range with the 29" tires.

Hawk Suzuki can hook you up without a problem, as can any of the other after market retailers.  :)

Which is easier to install? The differential gears or the t case gear set.

T-Case by far.  Plus you get a lower Low Range as well.  I did mine in the garage in an afternoon with some basic tools and a hammer.
