BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!

Greetings BRC Action Alert Subscribers in Oregon and Northern California,

The Bureau of Land Management is revising the six western Oregon Resource Management Plans tiered to the Northwest Forest Plan.  The planning area for this project covers approximately 2,557,800 acres of public land contained in the BLM's Salem, Eugene, Coos Bay, Roseburg and Medford Districts and the Klamath Falls Resource Area of the Lakeview District.

The planning process began on September 7, 2005, with formal issue scoping. The plan revision process is expected to be completed in 2008. On August 10, 2007, the BLM released for public review and comment, a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for future management of 2.5 million acres of public lands in Western Oregon

The BLM will host a series of open houses and workshops during September and October 2007. (See schedule below) The format of the open houses will allow people to ask questions about the alternatives or analyses while the workshops will help them form substantive comments.

Although the alternatives in the plan revision process are analyzed through one region-wide Environmental Impact Statement, the end product will be six consistent, but independent, Resource Management Plans that will guide the management for the western Oregon BLM Districts for the next 10 to 15 years. The revised plans will assure that the BLM's actions address local issues and produce significant contributions to local communities.

The BLM is asking for your comments on the DEIS during a 90-day public comment period which began on August 10, 2007, and will end on November 9, 2007. You can review the entire document and make comments online at the project website at http://www.blm.gov/or/plans/wopr. On the site you can also find out how to obtain or review an electronic or paper copy of the 1650-page Draft EIS and use an interactive map explorer to indicate areas important to you and discover how the plan alternatives could affect those areas. You can also leave comments on the map for BLM's consideration.
