Diff Drop & Aluminum Diff
« on: July 23, 2007, 01:37:52 PM »
OK, i need to get off my butt and order some parts, my other posts were questions about WARN hubs and VTTR drop brackets.  I'm gonna grab some WARN hubs.  I found some information stating that the VTTR brackets are a little shorter than the Calmini brackets.  I am ok with this.  My question is; is adding the diff drop brackets going to put me in a position where I am more likely to to screw up the third member &/or aluminum diff housing?  I found an old thread on zookpower in the past showing how somebody had basically added a rubber covering over the 3rd member to protect it after dropping the diff....??  any thoughts on this guys?

Before you do that, read reply #12 in this thread:

There more on that board by the same author - he's had a lot of experience and may convince you that diff drop is unnecessary.

interesting stuff there, same things i was thinking about/concerned about.  now the question is, to i buy the brackets just to wait for my diff to pop, or do i wait for diff problems before i bother with this..???  everyday i hate my IFS front end more.  it's starting to feel like a lot of work/money for oh so little and the constant fear of it popping.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but dropping the diff, and not changing the arc of the swing arms, is a recipe for problems.  If you notice Calmini's set up, both the 2" and the 3", use different drops and it has to do with the a-arms different arcs.

Now, anyone can sell you anything (and I guess if you are in Taiwan, you can sell knock-offs of patened parts), but whether they will help or hinder is the million dollar question.

Remember the adage, "Let the buyer beware".
