As much as I don't like the idea of this swap due to weight, I can get a vortec for free. All I'll need after that is a tranny.

The question I have is are there aftermarket intakes to put a carb on it rather than using the EFI?

newer marine singleplanes should work. vortec intake manifold bolt holes are at a different angle then regular intakes, or so I've been told. I'd keep it efi, makes a world of a difference.

Should be able to find an adapter to marry your tranny to the Vortec.

Also painless wiring makes a universal harness for that motor to go into ANY car. If I remember right its only like $250.00

My thoughts exactly.

And as for going carb'd, it's easier to tune and mod with my limited experience. Plus the engine doesn't come wiht a computer, so that means more junkyard shopping + more expense to the total project.

if i were to do an engine swap i think id prefer a carb after what my computer has caused for me

   If your talking 4.3 there are a number of manifolds available check out sumitracing.com I just looked and edelbrock makes a couple different performer intakes for it 2 or 4 barrel different powerbands and such ;)

 

 this is the one for the vortec 4.3 the heads are a little different than the older ones

    these engines are carbon copies of the small block v8 you can actualy run one off a v8 distributor we did once in a pinch. there are countless trans combos that bolt to the 4.3 check into older k5 blazer and pick up  stuff, the front drive shaft comes out on the pass side. most small block v8 parts fit and work on the 4.3 good torque you'll have to watch your gearing these engines don't like to rev like a 1.6 ;D
