EXHAUST LONGEVITY????
« on: January 11, 2007, 06:25:18 PM »
Just trying to get an idea of how long everybody's exhaust systems are lasting.  It's a 2000 Tracker with the 2.0, has 68,000 miles on it and I drive 11 miles each way to work and back.  It's original and has been getting a little noisy, like as if the muffler baffles are starting to come undone inside.  I've had the tail pipe welded on twice, now the pipe just going into the muffler is cracked and there is a leak near the cat as well.  I think there is a flex pipe up front, it's dark out tonite and didn't get a good look.  My wifes '01 Xl-7 which has 46,000 miles on it is still like new with no problems.  Did Suzuki get a little cheap with the Chevy models?  Not complaining here, just wondering.  Dave ;D

I know our 2003 GV had a stainless steel system.  It wasn't the prettiest (stainless steel...not polished stainless steel) thanks to Michigan winters but it was holding up fairly well.  All I did was  have the stock muffler cut off and a Magnaflow muffler put on.

Unfortunately it was wrecked last month at 52k so I can't state much about it's longevity beyond that.

Perhaps yours is aluminized tubing instead of ss?

I haven't had the time to check over the XL7 to see what it has.  The Magnaflow is coming though... ;D

Yep.  You could feel the little bit of extra power there.  Nothing major mind you but it was there.  The "seat of the pants" dyno said that the little 2.5L liked exhaling through a straight through muffler more than the 2' long crappy OEM crappy.  That's true with just about any vehicle.
