Please help me program my keyless remote
« on: August 18, 2006, 09:41:11 PM »
I bought a keyless remote "with programming" from ebay for my 2001 4dr ZR2 Tracker (that I have the window sticker for so I know it came with one) but the programming instructions they supplied do not work for this vehicle and the seller has gone incommunicado.   >:(

I've searched the site here and not found anything.  If anyone knows how to do this could you please help me out?

Thanks!

When I had my Dodge Truck. I had to by the remotes and they were
Dealer only programable.
Check with your local Chevy/Suzuki dealer.
Hope that helps alittle bit.

The dealer wanted $35 for the remote and $100 for programing it which is a huge ripoff because it is usually a very simple process that takes 5 seconds.  For most cars you can find out the process from a public forum but no one here seems to know.  I doubt a typical Chevrolet forum will have much knowledge about Trackers.  Anyone know of a bigger Suzuki site?

Hey there, I replied onthe Tracker section of the forum but don't think you saw it.  I had the same problems with my 2001 XL-7, bought a key fob from ebay cheap, turns out on the 01's you can't program the module.  The newer ones however you can.  You have to climp up under the dash board and look at the module, unfortunately it's been a while and can't remember for the life of me what you have to look for on the module for. ::)   But if it's original then it probably isn't programable.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here.  Dave

Thanks so much for your reply, even though it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear.   :(

I had already looked under the DS dash because I remember someone talking about a box with a red button long ago, but found nothing.

It only takes a few seconds to do but the dealer has to pay a huge amount for the equipment.

Actually on most fords I have dealt with (probably others also, just never tried) there is normally a method of turn the key off and on like 8 times (I would look that up somewhere to make sure that is correct, its been awhile), then leave it on and press the button on the remote for 30 seconds.  Picked up remotes from salvage yards and used that method and always worked fine.

Not sure if suzuki works the same way, but worth checking I guess.
