Late model GV rear locker
« on: January 28, 2006, 03:01:25 AM »
As I understand it, the late model GV has a different ring gear in the rear diff possibly the same as the XL-7. I have someone who may be able to make a rear air locker for this but at the very least needs the following information.

Can anybody provide the following information with any certainty:

Ring gear I.D.

Ring gear bolts P.C.D.

Number of ring gear bolts

Axle spline count

Axle spline O.D.

Axle spline root angle

Hi,I just posted this in the Xl7 forum, maybe you'll be interested, though I'm not sure if the part numbers are correct.

As far as I can tell, the GVs never used an Xl7 rear axle. The part numbers I have are:
GV:
Axle housing:
w/o ABS 99-03 4650065D20
w/ABS 99-03 4650065D70
all 04 4650065D20

Carrier housing:
manual trans 99-03: 2745065D10
auto trans 99-00 2745065D00
                  01-03 2745065D10
all 04: 2745065D10

XL7:
Axle housing:
w/o ABS: 01-04 4651052D01
w/ABS: 01-04 4651052D51

Carrier assy 01-04 2745068D00

Can anyone confirm the part numbers?
If they are correct, and different part numbers mean different parts (sounds logical doesn't it? Grin) the GV and the Xl-7 never shared these parts. Besides, the axles on manual non-ABS vehicles from 99-03 are the same as those used on 04 vehicles. Which would mean that, for example, the lockright locker on rocky-road for through 2001 Vitaras may actually be ok for vehicles up to 04.
Are the part numbers on the axle somewhere?
Who can find if the part numbers are correct?

Take a look here
http://www.suzukicarparts.com

From the oline catalog it shows that you are correct for all of the carrier housings, and the XL7 axle housing.  Nothing came up with the part numbers you had for the GV axle housing.

.....

The GV axle housing part numbers are right according to this site
http://www.gm-car-parts.com/gmautoparts.htm
On this catalog you can view the diagrams of the parts, but they don't list the part number.  However you can search by part number.

What' interesting is that I have always heard that the lockright and LSD from a kick will work in the 99-01 autos, but not the 5spd's or later models.  I don't see how this could be if Suzuki switched the carrier in 01 instead of 02.

I've been checking the numbers for the front. There are some conclusions! ;D

GV Front housing:
99-03 2761160A11
04 2761182D00

Xl7 Front housing:
manual 01-03: 2761167D00
auto 01-03 2761182D00
In 2004, the design seems to have changed completely.

GV front carrier:
99-03 2745085F41
04 2745068D21

Xl7 front carrier:
01-03manual: 2745068D10
01 auto: 2745068D20
02-03 auto: 2745068D21

The front mounting brackets are the same for both Xl7 and GV in all those years, so changing them should be bolt in. The back mounting bracket, however, are different.

Most of the internals (shafts) are the same for all the years.

So, conclusions:

In 2004, the GV got the front housing the Xl7 auto had in years 01-03. The same happens with the third members.
In 2004, the Xl7 got a completely new design for the front axle, which might be the one in the 2006 GV.
the_maplebar had some pics comparing different 3rds, the one on the left must be the 2745068D21 (GV 2004 and Xl7 02-03 auto), and the one on the middle possibly 99-03 2761160A11 (GV 2001-2003).
My model is a 2004, I should have the same diff as a 2002-03 Xl7 auto, so maybe we can compare them ;).

Doesn't ARB make an air locker that will fit a GV?  I though that the carriers were the same as a 1st gen trackick.
Can he say that here

Check this out, go here http://www.rocky-road.com/ARB.pdf This says that ARB can be used if you swap to a Trackick carrier.
