More GV, XL-7 wheel help.
« on: January 20, 2006, 06:32:38 AM »
I have read in some posts that I can fit a 15" wheel over the Grand Vit caliper with the use of wheel spacers. Can a wheel with a larger backspacing (or is that less BS) be used instead of wheel spacers? This will save me a lot of coin.

I found some 16 x 7 and 16 x 8 wheels with 4" backspacing from Allied for around $125 CDN each but the 15 x 7 and 15 x 8 with 4" BS are half the price at $61 CDN each.

A set of wheel spacers will put me out about $100 US for a pair. Why they sell these things in pairs and not in sets of 4 I will never know.

AJMBLAZER what backspacing did you try when you had to send the wheels back?

You would want less backspacing so the mounting surface is closer to the back of the wheels and your brake calipers don't have to go in as far.  It all really depends on the clearance in a particular style of wheels.  4" of backspacing is about standard so unless those are some really special wheels they most likely will not fit.

What I plan on doing when I get new wheels is to measure the radius out to the edge of the brake calipers and also check the inside diameter of my wheels at the brake calipers.  Then I will do the same for the wheels I am looking at (or ask the retailer) and make sure there is enough clearance.

I had 4".  Wouldn't clear by A LOT.  You'd need a good inch or so of spacer to make it clear.  Can't even guestimate on if you could make a 15" clear the front rotors without a spacer.

I think there's a reason you don't see pictures of people's lifted GV's and XL7's that aren't running OEM Suzuki wheels.
