So hcgalvin, are you running a 4.16 sammy t-case or is it still stock??

What are your rpms at 100 km/hr (60 mph) with the 35's??

I used to have 4:24's in the sidekick case. I took them out. I'm now stock in both cases.

Hmm.. I think I'm about 3800-4000 in 4th at 60. I can't use 5th too much, more like cruise control.

It's kind of old, it's how my kick was set up over a year ago, when I was still suzuki axles (albeit sas) and 33s. But you can change the numbers around and get changes. Don't mind the M90/T90 stuff around the edges.

i got a sammy t case fixed to back of my track t case and 4.88's in the toyota axles.
and with the 33's it runs spot on gearing wise.
3200 rpm at 60mph on the road.

For stock sidekick/tracker now(without sammy t-case).

manual tranny:

5.83(clamini gears) X 27"(stock tire size) / 5.12(stock r&p's) =  30.74

Good for 30-31" tires.

Auto tranny:

5.12 X 27 / 4.62 = 29.922

Good for 29-30" tires

5.83 x 27 / 4.62 = 34.071

Good for 34 tires!

hi fredo, isnt the manual tranny better for taller tires with its lower 1st gear ratio? (3.652 vs 2.826)
will a straight solid axle with 5.71s be ok for 34-35" tires on auto tranny (w/o sammy dual t-case)?

Allllrighty then....  so with my 4.16 t-case and the 4.10 axles , with the standard kick tranny and 33's, I should be abooooooot right....


I have another option as well... a toyota t-case from the same SAS pickup I am getting the axles from....!!!     Any ideas on RPMs??

(I havn't hit the gear link yet---this computer will not do it....grrrrrrrr)

Oh are the 4.88's aftermarket or did they come stock???   I thought all toyota SAS pickups (1980's) came with 4.10 diffs???

man if I had a toyota trans and t case I would get a ring r adapter and run dual xfers there are a couple of places making the dual adapters and you could run one of them in low range for the street, there was a couple of rigs that came with 4.30's for stock gearing but that would not be low enough for high range and too low for low range highway.

4.88 are stock over here in the UK on 80's trucks

4.10(toy gears) X 1.409(sammy case) = 5.776
27(stock kick tire) X 5.776 = 155.952

155.952 / 5.12(stock manual tranny kick gears) = 30.459
155.952 / 4.62(stock auto tranny kick gears) = 33.755

4.10 is Just enough gears for 30" tires with a manual tranny, and 33" with an auto tranny...well you will need lower R&P's.

My math is terrible, how would I figure out the tire recommendations for the above setup, if I had 4.16:1 Rockcrawler Gear Set?
This kit provides a high range reduction of 12.2%.
